Hannah Trimble at U.S. Open

This past weekend Hannah suffered a broken C6 vertebra during the U.S. Open at Diablo Free Ride Park in Vernon, NJ. Competing in one of the biggest races of the season this is a surely vicious and difficult injury to bear. Hannah we wish you the best in your recovery and are here for you in any and every way!

Hannah asked that I put this pic of her up on TR, what a warrior! In fact she continued to race after breaking her neck. Amazing!

This is victory #1 in your recovery Hannah-banana, keep up the fight! We all love you and miss you very much. Get well soon!

    Hannah,

That must have been a big-bad-crash. Were you traveling at “break-neck-speed” when it happened? Must have been!

Get well soon so you can get back on the bike soon.

Love ya, Uncle Fred and Aunt Sue in Alaska.

HANNAH!!!!!! You know you’re hardcore when you crash like that and still try to finish the race! That is some stylish neck wear. Next time try to make it through at least a whole racing season without breaking any bones or getting any more concussions you maniac. Hope you feel better soon.

    Hey strong girl,
I just saw some verry humerous pictures of you in the hospital. It takes one strong chick to handle such a serious injury so beautifully! I know we have yet to meet but I feel like I already know you Hannah Banana (hah)! I feel so lucky to be spending time with a father that has so much compassion and love for his children. You are a very lucky girl in MANY ways! I am praying for your fast and full recovery. I know you will be even stronger after this!!! I am hoping to come to NY with your father soon. I would love to meet you then. BE BETTER SOON!!!!!!!! :-)

    Hi Hanna,

I think its wonderful that you are such a positive person. I would like to know more about your recovery, I too have a broken C6 vertibra (9/16/08). I was biking on a designated path, and was ran off the road by a six-year old(I said, “on your left”, and the father in the back said “ok kids watch on your left”, the little girl moved left instead). I managed to avoid a collision, but flipped over my handle bars and woke up with the same shooting pains throughout my body. I managed to pick myself out of the blackberry patch and apologized to the family for nearly hitting the little one(I was traveling way too fast). They offered to call an ambulance but being uninsured and poor(who isn’t), said I’d be “ok”, I rolled my bike home on its rear wheel cause the front wheel was a taco. Two days went by, I entered the emergency room on the third day I was horrified to learn that I had a stable beak in my C6 in two places. I have been in a hard neck-collar since, and am curious to know what treatments you have had. And to what the outcome might be, If your not already hitting the dirt.
I am scared that I might not be able to live as actively as I used to, I have to be able to work hard, and play hard. Twelve more weeks and I’ll have my third check-up. Until then its the neck-collar for me.

    Good Luck,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

I was very lucky and did not suffer any damage to my spinal chord. I had to wear a neck collar for 2 months and once I could take it off it took me about a month to feel strong again. I have fully recovered now and the doctor said my neck is as strong as it was before I broke it. I have been slowly been getting back into sports and I have been riding again and I feel just as good as I did before the accident. Take it easy and do everything the doctor tells you to do and hopefully you will heal back to normal. If you did not damage your spinal chord or ligaments then you’re neck bone should regain its strength. It might be helpful to see a therapist or ask the doctor for neck exercises you can do once you have the brace off to help it regain strength and flexibility. Best of wishes!!!
