Dave Shatters Hermann Park TT Record!

On Christmas day, James, Matt and Dave did the 3 mile Herman Park TT in Houston’s Museum District. It’s a beautiful twisting, technical course around the Science Museum, Zoo, Golf Course and Sam Houston statue in the nicest part of Houston. Conditions were perfect, very little wind about 70 degrees and not much traffic.

Dave tagged along on the MKM for his warm up.

Ready Set Go!!!!  We all three rode the Red Aero with Vittoria Diamonte Pro clinchers and used the Rocket Bar.

Bo didn’t feel like racing, so he was the official timer.  Nate didn’t feel like racing either and stayed home to work on his mountain bike.

Good Aero form, coming in to finish in a course record and PR of  7 min 52.82 sec! I held the previous record of 7:57. Dave soon reset it, but I was happy with my run!  Like all good time trial rides, I felt terrible the whole time!

Matt went next.  It was his first bike race!

Matt at speed – he wasn’t quite comfortable with the Rocket Bar yet.

Matt finished up with a good time of 8:25.51

Dave getting ready for his run.  He’s wearing my #42 vintage skin suit from the Alaska Team Aero days! (circa 1984 or so) I wish I could still fit into it! To warm up he rode behind myself and Matt on our runs.

Dave used his track stand skills for the standing start in front of the Houston Natural Science Museum.

Dave looking fast and aero on the final stretch before the Sam Houston round about and finish line.  He’s probably going 28 mph+ in this photo.

The all out sprint for the finish line.  Dave turned an excellent 6:44.43 to totally obliterate my course record.  That’s a 26.7 mph average!!!  Will anyone be able to better that mark?  It’s going to be tough!

Great to see the Trimble in action. I got back to triathlon racing the past Summer on my 1989 Trimble. Please email me at oc3@comcast.net. I would like to touch base.
