Spring Training: 2 slabs of meat

Yesterday I threw on some new meat slabs for this riding season. Fresh 29r tires!

meat slabs

The subject: WTB nanoraptor 29×2.1′s, a classic 29r tire. I’ve been running 700×35′s for awhile, so this was quite the change to these “monster tires” for me.

I’m only at my 3rd ride of Spring Training so far, but the trails are pretty much cleared up now and I’m ready to hit it hard. I put down a good 16 miles of mixed terrain and the weather was a gorgeous, nearly 60 degrees outside!

The 29r looks even more ominous with these giant tires!

I threw a lot of rugged ground their way and they devoured it easily and in smooth fashion!

Overall this should be a nice AK summer tire for mixed urban/trail riding. I think it will prove quite hard to flat these things out. Something I am looking forward to!

Note the rear clearance! I just made it ;)

After this early season ride a bath was in order as well.

As always, the post-ride shot… mission complete.

Wheat – nice pics of the bike. Really beautiful. What we really need is some photos of the trail. Also pre ride the 24 hour course asap and report. Start thinking about some local AK business who could sponsor a Trimble team. Next step is to develop a sponsorship proposal. Lets do it.

Roger that. I’ll get some trail pics today. I will go explore the hillside trails for further recon. I’ll put out some feelers for sponsors.

    Ideas,

Local bike shops (make a list of most promising ones)
REI – you should have contacts here
Your dad’s company (should have big bucks)
    Your mom’s company (food sponsor????)
    AWCC – bodyguards? or funds!
Sam Trimble Design (promotion for bear project)
    Bear tooth

any other ideas??? let’s do it

  4. STT says:

I will ask Bud if he has some ideas. Monaco would have some good intel as well… All good places to start. Thanks DA!

Next step before requesting sponsors is a budget.

    I’m thinking 4 man team

    Dave Trimble
    Nate Trimble
    Bo Trimble ?
Stephen Trimble (you need some serious training miles)

Or we could recruit a couple of fast locals to join the team if all of us couldn’t make it up there.

Another option would for me and nate to do it on a 2 man team

I have a burning desire to do this race but am (as usual) extremely lacking on funds. There is no way I can do it without some sort of sponsorship. Team Solar Eclipse may cover my race entry fee but nothing else.

  7. Dave Trimble says:

    Wheat!

Sounds like you’ve been recruited to be team manager. Lets get funds pronto! Nate is broke as usual.

    Call G-ma

    DA

  8. Nate says:

We should get some family rivalry going. Something along the lines of Nate and Hannah vs. Dave and Wheat vs. Dad and Bo

  9. STT says:

Sounds like you guys are getting fired up for some AK races this season. Good!

  10. STT says:

We’ll have to plan it out. I would love to get you guys up here for some races as team manager. Get Moose to sponsor, stat!

  11. STT says:

It just snowed 3 feet in 24 hours here…

  12. Nate says:

Wow looks like you’ll need to bust out the trainer. It’s starting to get hot here.

  13. STT says:

The snow is melting fairly quickly… hopefully I wont need to get the trainer back out…

  14. Nate says:

Wheat, how has training been going? Are you planning on doing any mtb races this season? I want picks of AK trails.

  15. STT says:

Hey Nate! Training is going very well. I have been riding around 50 miles per week. Getting up to speed now quite well… I have a new job now, so that most likely keeps me out of races this season.
